Historical notice
Le Louroux était au 10e siècle le chef-lieu d'une viguerie. Plus tard, il forma une châtellenie et appartint pendant plus de cinq siècles à l'abbaye de Marmoutier. Il devint au 18e siècle propriété de l'archevêque de Tours. Le domaine avait 200 hectares. Ce vaste ensemble se présente comme une ferme féodale et est en grande partie fortifié. Il comporte les restes de quatre tours et des parties du mur d'enceinte du 13e siècle. Certains bâtiments primitifs furent construits à la même époque, mais en grande partie réédifiés au 15e siècle.
