Historical notice
L'église et le château auraient formé autrefois un prieuré qui dépendait de l'abbaye Saint-Cyprien de Poitiers. L'église aurait été édifiée au début du 12e siècle, selon un plan cruciforme. De ce premier édifice subsistent deux travées voûtées en berceau, et la tour-clocher à la croisée de l'ancien transept. Une seconde campagne de construction, sans doute à la fin du 12e siècle, ajouta à l'édifice trois travées en berceau brisé et formant un choeur à chevet plat. Au 15e siècle, l'église fut agrandie d'une chapelle. Fin 15e début 16e siècle, ajout d'une chapelle côté nord. Vers 1657, ajout au sud d'un collatéral et, au nord, d'un vestibule donnant accès à la chapelle de la Vierge. L'abbaye de Saint-Cyprien ne paraît pas avoir maintenu son prieuré au-delà du début du 17e siècle. L'ex prieuré est devenu château et l'église devint paroissiale.
