La paroisse est citée dès la première moitié du 13e siècle, mais le plan de l'église et son vocable pourraient indiquer une date antérieure, peut-être le 11e siècle. La famille Villarceau, dont on retrouve, à une époque plus tardive, les armoiries dans l'église, est connue dès 1068-1078.
