Historical notice
L'édifice a été très restauré et remanié au cours des siècles. Le clocher, qui comporte une chapelle seigneuriale voûtée sur croisée d'ogive, remonte au 15e siècle. La nef a été reconstruite en 1790. Mais c'est au 19e siècle que l'église a pris son aspect actuel : l'architecte diocésain Guérin a agrandi l'église en 1856-1857 et le maître-verrier Lobin a crée les vitraux. L'abbé Guillot, curé d'Azay, a sculpté lui-même, entre 1856 et 1880, le décor intérieur de style néogothique, toujours en place.
