Historical notice
Château-du-Loir se trouvait jadis à l'intersection des lignes Le Mans-Tours, ouverte par la compagnie « Paris-Orléans » en 1858 et «Paris-Bordeaux par l'Etat », ouverte en 1886. Le réseau de l'Etat fit édifier trois rotondes à Chartres, Château-du-Loir/Montabon et Thouars. Victimes des bombardements de la guerre de 1939-1945 ou de la modernisation des réseaux SNCF, la rotonde de Montabon, mise en service en 1891, est aujourd'hui la dernière à présenter des dispositions cohérentes et aussi proches de l'état d'origine.
