Historical notice
La petite ville fut autrefois fortifiée, mais il reste peu de vestiges de l'enceinte. Selon la légende, Saint-Deodacus bâtit en ce lieu un ermitage. Les miracles qu'il y fit, regroupèrent autour de lui un nombre grandissant d'habitants. L'ermitage fut converti en monastère et un bourg se forma autour. Plus tard, la population s'étant accrue, une muraille de défense fut construite par les habitants. Maintenue jusqu'aux guerres de Religion, elle fut alors détruite et il n'en reste que quelques tours. Toutes ces tours sont en moëllons. Elles sont arasées et recouvertes en tuiles plates.
