Conçu au milieu du 19e siècle par la société Samain, à Blois, le balancier hydraulique de Châteauvieux permettait d'alimenter en eau potable, sans l'aide d'aucun moteur, le château de Gaston Andral, gendre du conventionnel Royer-Collard, situé 30 mètres plus haut. Unique dans la région, son mécanisme est particulièrement bien conservé.
