Historical notice
Cette chapelle a été construite à l'initiative de Louis de Bourbon, seigneur d'Argenton, et d'Antoine Barbault, prieur de Saint-Marcel, probablement avec la destination indiquée par un titre de 1517 concernant la chapelle du petit collège d'Argenton. L'édifice a été très ébranlé en 1740, au moment où l'on ouvrit une tranchée pour faire passer la nouvelle route. Elle a été vendue comme bien national en 1793 et recédée à la ville par les acquéreurs en l'an III. Elle a ensuite servi d'entrepôt de grains et d'annexe du marché au blé. Elle a été restaurée en 1873 sous la direction de l'architecte Dauvergne.
