Historical notice
L'hôtel a été construit au 15e siècle et a été considéré à tort comme l'hôtel de Jean de Xaincoings, trésorier des finances de Charles VII. On date le remaniement exceptionnel de sa façade antérieure vers 1610 par l'ajout d'un corps central hors-oeuvre avec porche et loggia et un corps latéral à gauche. L'hôtel a appartenu au marchand René Gardette au milieu du 16e siècle. Il est passé en 1738 aux mains de la famille Gouin, qui lui a donné son nom définitif. Cet ensemble a subi de nombreuses restaurations qui ont altéré son aspect d'origine.
