Historical notice
La construction en 1872 du nouveau théâtre, sur l'emplacement de l'ancienne chapelle du couvent des Cordeliers, est l'oeuvre de Rohard. A la suite d'un incendie en 1883, un nouveau décor intérieur a été exécuté par Jean-Marie Hardion et Stanislas Loison. Le nouveau théâtre a été inauguré en 1889. Les peintures sont de Clairin. C'est un édifice représentatif de l'architecture et de la décoration du Second Empire et des débuts de la Troisième République.
