Exécuté en 1930, ce berger de Champagne berrichonne fut donné par l'artiste, Ernest Nivet, à sa ville natale de Levroux ; cette oeuvre illustre le veine ruraliste du sculpteur, et est représentative de son époque d'exécution par sa catégorie (statue décorative destinée à un jardin public et non hommage à un grand homme) et son matériau (pierre dure traitée à grands traits).
